Referrals Committee sends solar proposal to Utilities Commission for staff-prepared review

The Referrals Committee on June 8 referred a solar proposal that originated with Councilmember Davis to the Utilities Commission and asked city staff to prepare background materials ahead of the utilities panel’s meeting.

Councilmember Newsom moved the referral and Councilmember Satterden seconded; members agreed the item should be placed on the Utilities Commission agenda to be heard by the end of August. Committee members said additional staff work is needed before the commission can take action.

Committee discussion focused on where the work should start and which board would be most appropriate to consider the strategy. Members agreed staff should do preparatory analysis and bring the item to the Utilities Commission once that work is complete. No further legislative action or vote on program details occurred at the Referrals Committee meeting.

The committee did not set substantive policy in committee; it referred the proposal for further review and possible future action by the Utilities Commission.
