The Blackhawk County Board of Supervisors on June 9 certified the results of the June 2 primary election and completed the required precinct-by-precinct canvass under Iowa Code chapter 43.49.
Election staff read vote totals by precinct during a lengthy canvass, noting that the county temporarily consolidated some precincts for administrative purposes and that vote centers remained available where permitted. The board discussed procedural points about temporary consolidations and recordkeeping during the certification process.
The county reported four provisional ballots during the canvass; election staff said two provisional ballots were accepted and two were rejected because voters did not produce required identification. Board members noted total election-day participation and absentee returns and discussed turnout: the clerk reported total ballots cast for the primary as 397, a turnout figure the board calculated at about 17.74 percent.
The board completed the certification by roll call. Supervisors voted to adopt the canvass and to sign the required certificates, and staff will preserve the election records per state requirements.
Next procedural steps include filing the canvass results and retaining ballots and associated receipts as public record in accordance with state law.
