Board approves software purchase, elevator maintenance and inspection contracts

At its June 9 meeting the Blackhawk County Board of Supervisors approved several procurement items on the consent agenda, including a one-time purchase of a new defendants-on-track case management platform, a county elevator maintenance contract, and a consultant contract for concrete inspection services for upcoming bridge work.

Brian Williams, the county attorney, said the county will replace its current ‘‘Storm’’ system with a new platform after multiple demonstrations; the one-time purchase price was described as $20,500 with lower ongoing support fees. "We've been using the Storm software for several months and it's been less than user friendly... we became aware of another program... price-wise, it's almost identical," Williams said.

Rory Gibbing, facilities director, presented a one-year maintenance agreement with Shoemaker Elevator Company covering preventative maintenance, inspection and lubrication for nine county elevators at a monthly cost of $1,965.55; the increase reflects bringing a hydraulic elevator back into service.

County engineering staff said federal requirements for a concrete plant inspector necessitated hiring a consultant for summer bridge work; the board approved awarding inspection services to Team Services to provide certified plant inspection while county staff pursue additional DOT certifications.

The board approved each resolution by roll call and the items will proceed to contract signature and execution by the appropriate department heads.
