The Mayville common council voted to approve a resolution directing city staff and leadership to engage in exploratory discussions with Ambbe Corporation, the Ho-Chunk Nation and associated tribal partners about possible health services and, ultimately, a medical clinic in Mayville.
During the mayor’s earlier remarks the presiding official said the city has been approached about bringing healthcare services to the community and that the resolution would allow staff to begin formal discussions. The council described the proposal as a phased approach that could begin with reduced-cost prescription programs and occupational health services for local employers, with the long-term goal of establishing a full-service clinic.
Council members asked whether the entity would be recognized by insurance carriers; the presenter replied that it works with "all regular health insurance carriers" and with Medicare and Medicaid. Supporters noted prior discussions with other potential clinics had fallen through and described the proposed partnership as another avenue to restore healthcare access for residents.
The resolution authorizes staff to plan and evaluate potential cooperative initiatives "consistent with applicable laws and regulations" and to proceed with community engagement and due diligence. The motion carried on a roll call vote with the council members present voting in favor; one member (Olsen) was recorded as excused earlier in the meeting.
The resolution is exploratory in scope: it expresses support for continued partnership discussions and initial services but does not commit funding or finalize any agreements. City staff said they will report back with details as discussions progress and as any formal agreements are proposed.
