The City of Denison Planning and Zoning Commission on June 9 recommended approval of a conditional use permit to allow an auto dealer at 301 North Houston, moving the application forward to the City Council for final action on June 15.
Staff presented the item as a continued public hearing from May 26 and told the commission the applicant proposes to relocate parking to the northeast side of the building to move vehicles off the right-of-way and to remove existing gravel. A staff member said the revised plan “will clean up all the gravel” and that staff supports approval subject to conditions.
The applicant, Dustin Monroe, identified himself for the record as living at 3609 Cloverleaf Lane in Sherman, Texas, and spoke in support of the plan, saying the proposed parking arrangement “not only benefits the city … but it also kind of improves the overall of the building as well.” After public comment, a commissioner moved to recommend approval with conditions requiring landscaping planters along the east side of the building, prohibiting open storage of materials and vehicle repairs, and requiring the east-side parking construction to conform to the submitted concept; the motion was seconded and approved by the commission (tally not specified in the transcript).
Under the commission’s process, this recommendation will be forwarded to the Denison City Council for a final decision at its next meeting on June 15. The commission record notes the permit was found to comply with the city’s future land-use plan under the staff report.
The commission did not specify a vote tally in the public transcript; the staff file will accompany the item to council with the recommended conditions.
