Executive Director Travis updated the board on preparations for the June 16 runoff, saying logic-and-accuracy testing began the previous Wednesday, equipment deliveries finished last week and advanced voting opened at four locations.
"Advanced voting began today at all four locations," Travis said, naming the municipal building, Warren Road, Robert Howard and Henry Bigham as sites with hours 8:30 a.m.–6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday for the final week of early voting. He said staff began L&A testing for the advanced voting sites and that all equipment was delivered the prior Friday and Saturday.
Travis told the board staff had mailed 85 absentee ballots and had received seven back, noting that several mailed ballots were military ballots returned after the primary. He also outlined the schedule for processing and tabulation: the office will begin early processing of absentee ballots around 4:00 p.m. on election day and start early tabulation at 6:00 p.m. (the public notice in the packet shows 6:00 p.m.). He said the Carter Center asked to observe early processing and early tabulation procedures.
The office will be closed on Juneteenth (June 19). The board voted earlier to hold pre-certification and certification meetings on Monday, June 22, starting at 3:00 p.m. Staff also noted the risk-limiting audit earliest start dates and that the Secretary of State will provide additional guidance and training for recount procedures.
Travis emphasized turnaround tasks: securing and resealing ballots from the primary for any required recount, transferring ballot bags as needed and ensuring staff are prepared for processing and tabulation activity during the runoff period.
