Piper board approves audit engagement and purchases for mock courtroom and elementary kitchen

The board approved several contract and procurement items during its June 8 meeting, recording unanimous votes on each.

Audit. The board approved engaging Shipley and Williams CPAs to audit the district’s 2025–26 financial records at a cost not to exceed $22,000. Staff noted prior work with a consultant named Kayla and reported positive references from neighboring districts; the board recorded a motion, second and a unanimous vote.

Mock courtroom furniture. The board approved the final phase of a mock courtroom classroom fit‑out (tables and chairs) to complete a courtroom lab used by mock trial and pre‑law classes. The purchase from McGawi Furniture was approved in an amount not to exceed $40,000 to be funded through grant funds identified on the record; motion passed 7–0.

Kitchen equipment. The board approved purchase of kitchen equipment for Piper Prairie Elementary from Arctic Food Equipment in the amount of $46,166.16 to be funded from the food service fund; motion carried unanimously.

Board members recorded votes for each item; staff identified funding sources (audit paid from district audit budget, furniture funded by grant/PEF contributions, kitchen equipment from the food service fund). The approvals were presented as routine but important operational steps tied to facilities and instructional programs.
