Votes at a glance: Huntington board approves curricula, courses, textbooks and personnel actions

At its June 8 meeting the Huntington Union Free School District board recorded unanimous approval of a suite of routine and substantive agenda items.

Key approvals included the May 11 board meeting minutes; adoption of the treasurer’s report of April 20, 2026; and certification of warrants for May 28 and June 3, 2026. The board also voted to implement English 12R in 2026 for students yet to demonstrate proficiency on the Regents exam.

On curriculum and instructional materials, the board adopted Bring Science Alive (TCI) for grades 4–6 and Experience Science (SAVIS) for grades 7–8, approved History Alive: The World Through 1750 for grade 6 social studies, and approved two updated AP Latin texts (Plenty 20 Letters and Virgil selections, 2025) required by College Board changes. Trustees moved and carried each item by recorded voice or roll‑call cues.

Personnel actions were approved across multiple schedules; the board publicly recognized several probationary appointments (including new elementary and special‑education teachers and a speech therapist) and granted tenure to three administrators and leaders including the principal of South Downs Primary School and the chairperson of special education for grades 7–12. The board closed with routine business, a second public‑comment period (no comments recorded in the transcript) and adjournment.
