Jackson County jail administrator Andrew Long updated the Board of Supervisors on June 9 about facility population, revenue from housing Scott County inmates and operational staffing needs.
Long said the facility’s population was 29 at the most recent count (with a May high of 43 and a monthly average of 33.1). He reported May revenue from Scott County reimbursements at $41,525, bringing the running total for the facility to $617,080.
Long described short-term operational impacts: showers were being repaired (work expected to finish the following day and believed to be warranty work by the original installer), inmate movements were adjusted during repairs, and staff have absorbed some mental-health committals—often occurring on weekends. He said the jail currently houses 20 inmates from Scott County and nine from Jackson County (three female), and the facility is actively recruiting PRN female employees to reduce overtime pressure. A staff member is on light duty for pregnancy and expected to return following an August due date.
Long also relayed a community request to post a flyer promoting a Makoka PD food drive (June 15–20) with drop-off at Fairway.
What happens next: Long said repairs should conclude imminently and that hiring a PRN female employee in training should modestly reduce overtime; ongoing recruitment will continue.
