Coffey County commissioners approved two transportation contracts and several payroll notices during their June 1 meeting.
Road and Bridge superintendent Ryan reported two bid openings and recommended awarding the hot‑mix asphalt (HMA) project A2605‑C to Kilo Construction of Ottawa, Kansas, at a low bid of $611,221.32; the commission moved, seconded and approved the bid by voice vote. Ryan said funds for the project will come from the county's special highway fund and estimated an August 1 start with a 60‑day completion window.
The commission also accepted a recommendation for striping services (project S2601‑C) from Straight Line Striping at $25.77 per gallon for materials and application to cover center and edge striping on new asphalt and chip seal miles identified in the packet; that motion passed by the board. Ryan said Coffey County will adopt a 6‑inch fog/edge line width going forward.
Separately the board approved payroll notices including a District Court intern (Gracie Smith, wage in the transcript recorded as $15.96, effective June 1, 2026), a janitorial/maintenance custodian hire (Joanie Reppert, full‑time; transcript wage text unclear), and a rehire for a county attorney summer intern (Ellie Shoemaker, wage $16.25, hours not to exceed 1,000, effective June 8, 2026). The motions were moved, seconded and approved by voice votes, recorded in the minutes as unanimous.
