A representative of the Pioneer Cemetery Commission asked the Chickasaw County Board of Supervisors June 8 to transfer $1,280 in proceeds from the sale of a trailer back to the commission for use toward a replacement trailer.
Staff and the county's private auditor reviewed statutory guidance (331.325) and explained that commissions operating as a levy under the county typically receive funding through the general fund, and the sale proceeds had been posted as revenue to the county's general fund. County counsel and the private auditor said the board can, at its discretion, allocate money from the general fund back to a commission, but the transaction should be processed per auditor guidance to ensure accounting compliance.
Board consensus was to prepare the transfer and return a motion for formal action at next week's meeting after the private auditor advises whether to process the request as a transfer or a claim. Supervisors discussed the practical option of paying the vendor who supplied the replacement trailer directly but noted the trailer already had been purchased.
Next steps: staff will coordinate with the private auditor and return an item for formal motion at the next meeting.
