Superintendent Dr. Carol delivered an entry report at the June 8 York County School Board meeting summarizing roughly 80 days in the role and setting four initial priorities for the division.
Dr. Carol said stakeholder meetings, school visits and operational reviews reinforced the strengths of the division and identified consistent opportunities. The superintendent named four priority areas: expand student access to career and technical education (CTE) and dual enrollment programs; increase access to college-level coursework to support academic rigor and affordability; build capacity for high-quality professional learning for licensed and non-licensed staff; and establish a process for continuous review of business operations and organizational effectiveness. She also emphasized guidance and professional learning around responsible use of artificial intelligence in instructional and operational contexts.
Dr. Carol framed the priorities as connected efforts to improve outcomes through targeted investment in people, programs and systems. She told the board that work underway will explore program expansion, operational alignment and staff training measures; she closed by thanking the board and division staff as the school year ended.
Next steps identified included continuing stakeholder engagement, exploring CTE and dual-enrollment expansion opportunities, and integrating AI guidance into professional learning plans.
