Mayor Brenda Almo visited Kasagamino restaurant for an episode of the city’s 'Let’s Talk Paramount' program and interviewed Gloria Gamino about the restaurant’s history and signature dishes.
Gloria Gamino, who said her family has operated the restaurant since her late husband Soprano Gamino founded it in 1952, credited the business’s longevity to consistent, scratch-made food and a welcoming relationship with customers. "I've been in Paramount since 1952 when my late husband Soprano Gamino came and started it and we did it. We've been here ever since," Gamino said.
Almo said one of her favorites at the restaurant is the Kasagamino nachos, calling them her "go-to" on a bad day, and asked which dishes keep residents coming back. Gamino replied, "Mine are the chile rellenos and the enchiladas because we made them every day from scratch. So, I believe people are used to it and they do come because they like the flavor and the consistency of our food." The exchange emphasized the restaurant’s focus on homemade preparation and long-standing ties to the neighborhood.
At the close of the episode, Almo listed a slate of summer city events and services for residents: the summer recreation swim program begins June 6 at the city pool with select evening hours; the orange splash pad will be open for the season; outdoor movies in the park are scheduled for June 12 and June 26; a Juneteenth summer concert is planned for June 18 as part of a Friday night Paramount event; Paramount Wheels will take place at Spanny Park on June 20 with outdoor activities; and an affordable pet vaccine clinic is scheduled for June 24 at Paramount Park.
The segment combined a local business profile with community announcements; no formal city actions, votes, or policy decisions were made during the recording. The mayor closed the episode after thanking Gamino and urging listeners to check the city calendar for details.
