Councilmember Ramos told the work session that residents have complained about vehicle repairs taking place in public streets and right-of-ways and proposed a text amendment to Chapter 63 (Vehicles and Traffic) to prohibit such repairs.
The stated goals are to prevent blocked traffic, reduce safety hazards and limit environmental contamination from automotive fluids. City staff said the amendment would be prepared for first reading at the next council meeting. "What was going to be added is to add provisions to prohibit repair and or servicing of vehicles on public streets and rightways within the city," Councilmember Ramos said.
Why it matters: the amendment aims to address ongoing neighborhood complaints and streamline enforcement tools for code enforcement and police. The work session included no vote; the ordinance will be presented at first reading at the next regular meeting where the council can debate and amend the proposed language.
Next steps: staff (Andrew and Jackie were cited by council) will draft the ordinance amendment language and place it on the next meeting agenda for first reading and public consideration.
