The Board of Aldermen approved a set of substantial amendments to Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) annual action plans and the city’s FY2026–27 plan, clearing funds for building repairs and neighborhood improvements.
Major projects and rationale
- Silas Bronson Library: the plan proposes about $1.68 million to address roof leaks, damaged ceilings and moldy carpeting, with subsequent interior upgrades to a teen room, conference space and public furnishings as funds allow. Community Development staff described urgent roof work as the first priority.
- PAL Park: the city proposed resurfacing four basketball courts, replacing safety netting and adding modest security improvements (about $235,000 requested).
- Nest / property acquisition: $100,000 is proposed to acquire and remove a package store at 14 Grove Street so the parcel can be redeveloped as part of a Crown Brook/Adams Street neighborhood improvement strategy.
Community engagement and next steps
Community Development staff acknowledged declining applicant numbers for the Neighborhood Assistance Act and said they will broaden outreach next year, including translated notices and evening public hearings to increase participation. One alderman suggested moving public hearings to later hours and adding notice in non‑English print outlets.
Provenance: Community Development presentations, Neighborhood Assistance Act hearing and roll calls recorded during the intergovernmental committee.
