Wilson County's Commissioners Court handled several administrative and community items on June 8, approving resolutions, proclamations and contracts that support county operations and civic events.
Elections: Olga Morero, the county elections administrator, asked the court to approve a Help America Vote Act (HAVA) resolution and to designate a single point of contact for HAVA matters. Commissioners approved the resolution and named Olga Morero as the county's point of contact for HAVA reimbursements and reporting.
Community recognitions and events: Gloria Mick representing the Women Warrior Veterans of Wilson County read a proclamation designating June 12 as Women Veterans Recognition Day; the court approved the proclamation by motion and voice vote. Lindsay Angel, president of the Peanut Festival Association, introduced the festival court and invited commissioners to the October festival; commissioners accepted the invitation. The court also approved the Floresville Lions Club's request to use the courthouse grounds for the club's car show on Sept. 12, 2026, with standard conditions about staking and setup.
Audits and finance administration: Interim county auditor presented fiscal year 2025 audit reports for Emergency Services Districts 1, 3 and 4; each audit received an unmodified opinion and the court accepted them for filing. The court granted a 30-day extension to ESD 5 to submit its audit under Texas Health and Safety Code section 775.082.
Contracts and tax administration: The court approved a contract with Certified Payments to allow the Fire Marshal's Office to accept online permit and inspection fees (credit card pass-through fees will apply) and authorized the county judge to sign the agreement. The court also designated Don Palashik Barnett, Wilson County Tax Assessor-Collector, as the official to calculate the no-new-revenue and voter-approval tax rates for the 2026 tax year, as required under chapter 26 of the Texas Tax Code.
Each of the above items was approved on motions and voice votes and will be implemented by the responsible county offices.
