During the June 8 meeting commissioners reviewed emergency operations and facility matters related to the county annex and EMA.
A commissioner reported the cyber security committee recommended adding cybersecurity content to the county quick action plan; standardized evacuation charts that include fire, tornado and cybersecurity sections will be produced for departments moving into the annex building, with department‑specific evacuation pages and maps.
The board reviewed a circulated memo that suggested additional hardening measures for the Emergency Management Agency (EMA). County staff and members said they examined FEMA guidance and found some cited items were recommendations rather than FEMA requirements; the REOC (Regional Emergency Operations Center) is expected to meet FEMA recommendations but, according to the discussion, there is no FEMA mandate for items such as bulletproof windows.
Commission staff reported that moving the generator and fuel tank to the annex building is pending contractor scheduling and coordination with 'Mr. Sheets'; the prior EMA offices are expected to be vacated within approximately three weeks. No formal direction to purchase additional hardening items was recorded at the meeting.
The board also noted the hiring process for the assistant to the clerk position is underway, with six candidates selected for interviews the week of June 8.
