The Muscatine County Board of Supervisors on June 8 authorized the chair to sign a contract with Daxon Construction for $893,507 to build a County Engineer Satellite Facility.
County Development Director Eric Furnas said the board had reviewed minor revisions to the county’s standard 101 and 201 contract forms and that the bid was accepted within the filing deadline. "I mean we accepted the bid within deadline, you know, there was some funding mechanisms issues that we worked through and ... I think everybody's clear on that," Furnas said.
The board moved and seconded the authorization and approved it by voice vote. The transcript records the vote as "Aye" but does not list individual vote tallies or the names of members voting yes or no.
Furnas and other members discussed a 2026 construction timeline; Furnas said he expects construction to start this year. Staff previously circulated contract revisions and told the board those changes were minor and incorporated into the documents before the vote.
Next steps recorded in the meeting: the chair will sign the contract and county staff will proceed with contractor coordination and site preparations. The meeting record does not specify a firm construction start date or the contract's effective date.
