Ellie, a town staff member, demonstrated the Town of Harrisburg's new interactive Capital Improvement Projects map and urged residents to use it to track local projects. “This new CIP map…puts information directly in their hands,” Ellie said while narrating a screen recording of the live site.
The map uses pins to mark individual projects and lines to show greenways and transportation projects. Clicking a pin reveals project details including budget, funding sources, estimated completion, resident impacts and the strategic goal the project serves. Ellie said the map currently shows FY2026 projects and that FY2027 items will be added once the council adopts the budget.
Council members asked about mobile access and suggested clearer visual cues for project status; one member recommended color-coding active, planned and completed projects. Staff said they would check whether the town’s mobile app can provide a direct link and will explore color-coding and labeling to indicate non-Harrisburg projects such as Duke Energy or private developments.
The manager encouraged residents to bookmark the page and to send questions to the dedicated inbox at townprojects@harrisburgnc.gov, which staff monitor. “If a resident or council has questions, they can…call the phone number that goes to our customer service, or they can email a new CIP email called townprojects@harrisburgnc.gov,” Ellie said.
The map is accessible from the town website under Community Quick Links and is intended to reduce the public’s need to consult spreadsheets or budget documents by presenting a centralized, public-facing project tracker.
The town said the page will evolve with user feedback and staff will add FY2027 projects after the budget adoption earlier in the meeting.
