The Warminster Township Board of Supervisors on May 21 formally swore in two new police officers, Gabriel Hernandez and Anders Shendel, who are scheduled to graduate from the Montgomery County Police Academy on June 10 and will begin field training with the Warminster Township Police Department.
Lieutenant Tuca presented the candidates to the board, noting each had completed a rigorous selection process. Judge Chris O'Neal administered the oath of office to both Hernandez and Shendel in a brief ceremony attended by family and township officials.
Hernandez’s background was read to the board; he graduated from Boyertown Area Senior High School in 2014 and has studied at the Community College of Philadelphia and Indiana University of Pennsylvania. The board welcomed Hernandez, who attended the meeting with his fiancé and their infant daughter.
Shendel was introduced as coming from a large family, serving in a leadership role as a cadet sergeant at the academy, and expressed eagerness to serve the community. Both officers received applause from the board and audience after the oaths.
Township leaders used the occasion to thank police staff and to note that the new hires will proceed into field training upon graduation. The board recessed briefly afterwards for photographs.
