The Nibley Planning Commission approved a preliminary plat to create two lots and dedicate a public street where the new Maple View Middle School and Heritage Elementary are being built at roughly 925 West, 3200 South.
City planner Levi Roberts told commissioners the action primarily formalizes a roadway alignment that matches the city’s transportation master plan and allows the city to accept the new right of way. “Really, the purpose of this is just to dedicate this right of way to the city,” Roberts said, noting that school districts are typically exempt from some local review but that the city engineer had reviewed the public-improvement drawings.
City engineer Tom Jacobson confirmed staff had checked water, sewer and street design and recommended approval. Commissioners and residents focused discussion on traffic and queuing for drop‑off and pickup. A school representative explained the site separates bus and parent drop‑off and said a nearby roundabout and a widened approach on 3200 South provide additional queuing capacity.
A neighbor said increased school-related traffic has already pushed parents to use local streets as shortcuts and asked the city to consider parking restrictions; staff said they would forward the concern to the appropriate public‑works crews and flagged options such as parking signage.
Commissioner Claire moved approval with staff findings and conditions; the motion passed, recorded in the meeting as “Five to zero.” The approval allows final engineering and easement details to be resolved at final plat.
