Board moves into closed session on presidential performance, approves payment and elects new officers; several trustee resolutions passed

At its June 5 meeting the Radford University Board of Visitors voted to convene a closed session under the Virginia Freedom of Information Act to discuss personnel matters "related to the president's performance plan and personnel matters involving a public officer," as the motion read. The motion to enter closed session passed with one member recorded as saying, "I opposed," during the voice vote to convene.

After reconvening in open session, members certified that the closed meeting complied with FOIA requirements and approved a resolution authorizing payment "for the completion of President 25 through 26 performance plan as discussed in close session on June 5th, 2026," and noting the performance plan is a personnel record pursuant to the employment agreement dated Dec. 7, 2021.

In governance business, the nominating committee presented nominees for the board's leadership. The committee nominated Dale Artisone for Rector and Jennifer Wan Gilbert for Vice Director (the committee noted Jennifer Gilbert had been reappointed to the board); both nominations were approved by a show of hands. The board also read and adopted a series of resolutions recognizing the service of outgoing trustees, including formal commendations for Jeannie Armen Trout, James C. Turk Jr., George Mandiola Jr., and others; the resolutions were adopted in block by voice vote.
