Students from Vista Verde Middle School were recognized by the Greenfield Union School District board on June 4 for strong showings at the California State History Day competition. Board members named several students who advanced to state finals and noted that two students placed third in the state for a group project.
Teacher Matt Garcia described the student-run clubs and the months-long research and production that led to the projects, including a student podcast and a performance. The district covered registration and accommodation costs so students could attend the three-day state contest in Sacramento, and DCA Architects presented a surprise award to a student for technology leadership.
Board members and the superintendent praised the students and staff for their dedication. The board presented certificates and tokens of appreciation to students and thanked teachers who advised the projects.
Next steps: the board and district encouraged continued participation in extracurricular clubs and acknowledged the role of district funding in supporting access to statewide competitions.
