Commissioners told the Lancaster County Fire Commission that county standing-committee rules now make commission terms run January through December and that recent appointments altered term expirations, producing a cluster of commissioners coming off in the same year.
Members said the county’s change means many current appointments were adjusted and that some members were appointed to complete predecessors’ terms; commissioners noted the updated rules set two-year terms with holders eligible for two terms. “You can do two terms—the years of those terms is two years,” one commissioner said while the group discussed rotation impacts.
Several commissioners said they were not sure why three members’ start or end dates had been altered previously and asked staff to compile an authoritative list showing who comes off and when so the commission can plan staggered replacements and preserve institutional knowledge.
The chair and staff agreed to follow up with records and provide the commission the list of term expirations and the county ordinance language that governs appointments.
Next steps: staff will return with a roster of commissioners’ appointment and term dates and with clarification of the county ordinance language referenced during the discussion.
