Corey Gold, a Southborough resident and environmental professional, was recommended by the Conservation Commission on June 4 for appointment to the Town of Southborough Conservation Commission. Gold told commissioners he works at the Environmental Defense Fund, has prior experience at the Conservation Law Foundation and as a volunteer with the New England Aquarium, and holds a master's degree in ethics and public policy with an environmental focus.
Vice Chair Ben introduced Gold to the panel and described the commission's responsibilities, which include wetlands permitting under the Wetlands Protection Act and stewardship of conservation land. The commission discussed appointment logistics: staff will notify the Select Board, the appointee must take an oath at the town clerk's office, and all members must complete the state online ethics training.
A motion to recommend Gold to the Select Board passed by roll call vote; commissioners present indicated they would forward the recommendation and expected the Select Board to consider the appointment at its next meeting. The commission told Gold to contact staff with any questions about the process. The recommendation does not itself appoint a member; the Select Board will complete the appointment process.
