Harris County High School staff asked trustees to review a proposed out-of-country educational tour to Spain designed for students enrolled in Spanish pathways. Principal Miss Snider told the board the planned dates are May 31–June 7, 2028, and the itinerary would include Barcelona, Zaragoza and Madrid with airfare, motor coach, hotels, most meals and excursions included.
Miss Snider said the student cost is approximately $4,579 with a 23-month payment option ($195 per month); adult cost is about $5,319 (also with payment option). She described EF Educational Tours' safety practices, the six-to-one student–teacher ratio requirement, and the district requirement that at least one male and one female chaperone attend. Students must have taken or be enrolled in Spanish; the district will not accept new enrollments two years before departure to qualify late.
Board members asked about eligibility (students who have taken Spanish), minimum group size (six), potential fundraising and sponsorship options, and college-credit possibilities. Staff said the company provides fundraising tools and that students can earn up to three undergraduate credits if they meet program requirements; schools would coordinate interest meetings and fundraising guidance.
Trustees did not take a final vote at the June 4 meeting; the item remained on the action agenda for board approval procedures.
