Pete, a representative of the City of Harrisonville, briefed the Cass County Commission on June 3 on the North Park redevelopment, outlining the project scope, schedule and impacts on local user groups.
"It's a little over $25 million project," Pete said, describing the contract as nearly finalized: "We're on the final stages, 99% between the lawyers on the final contract." He told commissioners the project includes stormwater detention work near the J B Q intersection, replacement and relocation of ball fields, construction of at least three new soccer fields with room for three additional future fields to be graded, and relocation of the rodeo grounds behind the community center where the city already owns property.
Pete said the contractor plans to mobilize and begin demolition of the North Park area around July 4. He said the city has notified groups that use the park facilities — including 4‑H, FFA, livestock and horse groups — and expects those organizations to vacate buildings by that date to allow demolition to proceed.
The presentation focused on construction logistics and coordination with county operations affected by the roadway extension. Pete invited county staff to coordinate on timing and any assistance the city may need during the transition; no formal county action was taken at the meeting.
The commission did not set dates for county-level approvals tied to the project; Pete said contractual and legal work was nearing completion and city staff expects to move forward once the contract is finalized.
The commission encouraged continued coordination between county departments and City of Harrisonville staff to minimize disruption to user groups and county services.
