NISKAYUNA — The Police and Public Safety Committee on June 4 recorded several personnel changes, including the upcoming retirement of Deputy Chief Joseph Twitty and a mix of resignations and new hires.
Michelle Misuraca announced that Deputy Chief Twitty will retire after 26 years of service. Misuraca highlighted Twitty’s career milestones: he began his career in 2000, was assigned to the detective division as a detective sergeant in 2015, promoted to lieutenant in 2022 and to Deputy Chief in 2023. Misuraca said Twitty was the first Black American hired by the town and called his service "exemplary."
"Words cannot express my gratitude for Joe. He's always been there for me and our department as our balance and he's going to be greatly missed," Misuraca said.
The committee also noted personnel movements affecting staffing levels: Officer Cody Hanson resigned to accept a role with an Arizona police agency; Officer Breslin notified the department of a retirement date of July 31, 2026; and Officer Jose Fernandez was hired to backfill a previous retirement. The department said it is processing lateral candidates and will likely consider promotions, including for the deputy chief role, after Twitty’s departure.
No formal promotion votes or appointment motions were recorded at the June meeting. The committee said it will follow standard internal procedures for any promotions and staffing actions once retirement dates are finalized.
