The Adams County sheriff and several supervisors told the Board of Supervisors they have seen a spike in nighttime gatherings, fighting and ATV damage at county parks, and urged investment in cameras, lighting and targeted enforcement.
Several supervisors described a recent incident involving multiple adults assaulting a person at a park and said neighborhood residents have complained about recurring drag races and ATV use that damage grounds and threaten safety. The sheriff said officers have broken up multiple planned street races and recommended enhanced monitoring to intercept organizers before events start.
Board members proposed tactical steps: add cameras to blind spots, increase lighting, tow vehicles found trespassing or damaging park property, and coordinate neighborhood groups for stewardship and reporting. One supervisor suggested a temporary curfew could be considered if improvements fail to reduce incidents; others urged trying cameras and lighting first so ordinary park users are not excluded.
Supervisors requested staff identify camera and lighting locations and provide cost estimates and installation timelines. The board did not vote on a curfew or park closure during the meeting; supervisors instructed the sheriff to continue enforcement and asked for an update at the next meeting.
Next steps: county staff will investigate camera and lighting options and report cost estimates; law enforcement will continue targeted patrols and towing where legal authority exists.
