The Adams County airport director updated the Board of Supervisors on airport construction, grant awards and imminent passenger operations.
The director said a major grant application returned $787,000 — less than the $1.5 million the county had requested — and the county may need to use bonding or other local financing to close the gap. Construction is ongoing; the director reported recent deliveries of equipment and that project work continues after minor weather and material delays.
Board members discussed a new commercial-passenger registration and permit process for ride services (including Turo and Lyft) that will require proof of LLC registration, insurance and a $100 annual fee for individuals. The board approved moving forward with a permitting program to manage on-airport commercial pick-ups.
The director also outlined staffing needs and weekend premium pay to recruit ground crew and support operations when passenger service begins. He encouraged supervisors to publicize job openings.
Next steps: staff will return to the board with bonding or funding options to close the grant shortfall and a schedule for implementing the commercial-permit program; no bonding decision was made at this meeting.
