At the April 22 meeting of the Town of Marlborough Nature Trails & Sidewalks Commission, Peter Hughes, the town’s director of planning and development, summarized recent trail work and outreach plans.
Hughes said volunteers held a workday on April 18 focused on removing invasive plants from the Blackledge Trail. He reported a second volunteer day is scheduled for May 3, 2026 at the Blackledge Trail North Parker Road entrance.
The commission discussed Ogden Lord Road in the context of new trail creation and noted the presence of local charcoal mounds; Hughes said there was no new information to report at this meeting. Hughes also said he is preparing maps for the Marlborough Preservation Society as part of the town’s America 250 activities; the maps will mark five historic locations and features including charcoal mounds, a glacial erratic, a glacial kettle and mill sites.
Members noted the DEEP Recreational Trail Grant application as part of ongoing trail funding efforts; the meeting minutes do not include details on grant amounts or application status.
Rob Jepson said he met with the Parks and Recreation Director to discuss adding nature trails to RecDesk’s search feature, and members talked about updating Ogden Lord trail information on the town website and on AllTrails to promote trail use.
No public comments were made during the meeting, and no votes were taken on trail projects at this session.
