Flowood appoints Richard A. McCluskey as police chief; fire department promotion and hiring approved

The City of Flowood’s mayor and aldermen on Jan. 5 voted to appoint Richard A. McCluskey as the city’s police chief, with the appointment effective Jan. 20, 2015. The oath of office for Chief McCluskey was administered at the mid-month meeting on Jan. 20.

At the Jan. 5 regular meeting the board also approved a promotion in the fire department: Lieutenant Michael Johnston was promoted to captain (Step 12) with a monthly paramedic stipend. At the Jan. 20 mid-month meeting the board approved hiring Jonathan Moore as a Private II, Step 3 in the Combat Division.

Alderman Kirk McDaniel moved to appoint Richard A. McCluskey (motion seconded by Alderman Deron Harmon) and to approve the promotion of Michael Johnston; motions were recorded as passing unanimously. The Jan. 20 minutes record the oath of office for Chief McCluskey and the hiring motion for Jonathan Moore, both approved without objection.

The minutes show routine personnel actions intended to fill and structure public-safety leadership and operational staffing ahead of the effective date for the new police chief.
