Peachtree City work session approves budget moves, launches planning for pushcarts

Peachtree City’s mayor and council met in a work session and approved a set of routine and substantive items, including the minutes of the May 21 meeting and multiple budget and procurement actions.

The council voted to approve the May 21 council and executive-session minutes after a motion by a council member and a second by the mayor. Staff reported and council approved a small budget amendment to cover the city’s share of an adjustment in the county jail daily inmate rate. Kelly Bush, a staff presenter, said the county increased the per-inmate daily rate from $57.60 to $72.12 and that Peachtree City's share rises from 66% to 75% (the amendment includes the first day), with an immediate budget amendment of $3,500 for the remainder of this year and roughly $14,000 added for the next fiscal year.

The mayor introduced item 062502 to initiate a text amendment to allow pushcarts on private commercial property after a request from the Willow District. The council voted to send the matter to staff and the planning commission to draft parameters and return with recommendations.

In broader fiscal housekeeping, council approved placing $500,000 into a project number to reserve funds for hockey-rink improvements at Kedron (this action reserves funds; it did not commit to installation). Separately, the council later approved a $288,783 purchase through a purchasing cooperative to replace rink dasher walls and glass with Becker Arena Products. Council members repeatedly emphasized the distinction between authorizing funds or procurement and approving installation, seeking technical clarifications and additional engineering input where appropriate.

The meeting concluded with calendar and community announcements and an adjournment motion that passed unanimously.
