Council members on June 4 reviewed a discrepancy between the city’s payroll system and written policy for part-time leave accruals. Payroll/HR presenter Miss Watts (S3) reported that in FundView some part-time employees have been automatically accruing 4 hours of vacation and 4 hours of sick leave per month though the written policy does not currently authorize accrual for part-time staff.
A part-time employee in the room described working an average of 34–38 hours some weeks and said the accrual has been applied automatically. Council members expressed concerns about fairness between part-time and full-time employees and asked staff to benchmark what comparable entities provide and to present recommendations at the next council meeting. No formal policy change was approved at the meeting.
Next steps: Staff will conduct benchmarking and return with a recommendation at a future council meeting.
