Superintendent Howard updated the board on summer programs, reporting that the district’s grab‑and‑go summer food pilot served over 300 students at Madison Park and that demand exceeded initial planning.
"We served over 300 students," Howard said, describing long vehicle lines and a need to scale to roughly 500 meals at future pick‑ups. He said the district will partner with the city of Trotwood for police support to manage traffic and with firefighters to assist serving meals.
Howard described how the program distributes five days of meals to each child, including fresh produce and a gallon of milk per child, and thanked staff and volunteers. He also reported summer‑school enrollment figures: 130 high‑school students in credit recovery, about 40 middle‑school students in targeted support, and Champions enrichment serving approximately 100 K–5 students with a waiting list of 15–25.
Board members thanked staff and encouraged community volunteers to help; the superintendent said he will provide a final total of meals served at the end of summer.
