Dawson County commissioners on June 4 approved proposed improvements to the Rotary Butterfly Garden area on Highway 9 South and authorized applying for a matched Emergency Management Performance Grant (EMPG).
A commissioner moved to approve the Rotary River Park/Butterfly Garden improvements and included language that the project must follow standard county policies and requirements for contractors working on county property; commissioners voiced support for Rotary’s contributions to the community and the motion was approved. The board emphasized that county procurement and construction policies would govern the project.
Separately the board approved a motion to apply for a 50/50 EMPG for $7,784.84 with a county match of $7,784.84; the motion to apply was moved and seconded and the board approved the request. The chair said the county would seek the grant and provide the local match if awarded.
At the meeting’s close, the board voted to go into executive session to discuss personnel, land acquisition and potential litigation; the chair said the executive session would last about five minutes and that no votes were expected upon reconvening.
