Committee members discussed the status and costs of bringing commercial internet providers into the new building and agreed to press forward to get services on site.
"They're in the building," the chair reported of RCN and noted Verizon has connected to the MDF while RCN has run fiber to the network room; Comcast remains not yet in the building. The chair said RCN's quote was "like, 14,000 and change" and that Comcast's cost figure was about "14,100."
Members agreed to ask Verizon to split or share costs with the town where possible and to send an official letter requesting new services; the chair directed staff to coordinate the vendor outreach and to prepare a short on-site access plan so providers can finish their rack and switch connections by the July 1 target date previously discussed. The committee noted the utilities line item could absorb the immediate cost and that any rebates or reimbursements could be pursued afterward.
What happens next: project staff will draft and send the formal provider request, confirm Comcast’s timeline, and follow up on any cost-allocation agreements with Verizon and the town.
