The Village of Riverside Board voted to renew its electric aggregation program using MC Squared Energy Services for a 24-month contract. Clerk Emily Stenzel and consultant Sharon Durley presented options including a ComEd price-match alternative; trustees weighed trade-offs among 12-, 24- and 36-month terms, affordability and green-energy percentages.
Sharon Durley of Illinois Aggregation Consultants told the board that participating residents and small businesses can opt out at any time without penalty and that contract terms vary among suppliers. Trustees questioned long-term volatility and whether the village should prioritize 100% green energy; one trustee urged continuing 100% green for 12 months while others favored the 24-month MC Squared proposal as a balance of price and stability.
President Douglas Pollack called for a motion to approve an ordinance authorizing renewal of the aggregation using MC Squared’s 24-month proposal. The motion passed on roll call and the ordinance was approved; staff will receive updates from the consultant next year per a trustees’ request.
