The Sedgwick County Commission was briefed June 10 on several human-services items, including a continuation agreement with Butler County Department on Aging, a contract for Project Independence and an amendment to the Kansas 988 federal operational grant that will increase operational funding for county mental-health services.
The moderator said the Butler County agreement continues county-provided case management under the Senior Care Act; the county currently serves 73 cases in Butler County under this arrangement. On Project Independence — described as a consumer-run program offering social activities and leadership and training opportunities for residents with serious mental illness — the moderator said the Comcare fiscal note for the contract is a little over $57,000.
The commission also was told that an amendment to the Kansas 988 federal operational grant would raise the county’s funding by about $642,000, bringing the total to roughly $1,043,000 and running through Sept. 29. The moderator described these as federal dollars passing through the state to the county for operationalization.
Commissioners did not debate these items at length during the agenda preview; staff said additional detail could be provided if requested at the formal meeting. No formal votes were recorded during the agenda preview.
Next steps: the county will present these items on the consent or regular agenda with supporting documents and fiscal notes; staff said they could provide additional detail on Project Independence and the Butler County case counts upon request.
