Residents told the Town Council they are worried about park safety and privacy after several incidents and identified nearby infrastructure that needs attention.
Jason Bon (of 13 Ridgewood Lane) told the council the shade structure plan at an old slide at Northgate should wait until staff confirm the slide is structurally safe. He said he has seen small children on a slide that ‘‘wobbles’’ and that concrete at the base is missing; staff said options include re‑securing the slide or removing it if it cannot be made safe. Council members said the playground replacement is programmed for later years (transcript references 2029–2030) but emphasized immediate action if the slide is unsafe.
Separately, Mark Bertran (1234 Rockview Road) asked the council to plant additional trees to buffer continuous noise from the new pickleball courts, to move a porta‑potty farther north so it is not directly visible from his backyard and to relocate a police camera trailer that residents said was parked in line with backyards. Staff acknowledged vandalism (a tipped porta‑potty, damaged picnic table and a pulled tree), said the camera trailer will be moved for upcoming events and that a privacy fence/enclosure is planned for the portable restroom. Staff also agreed to relocate the toileting unit away from immediate backyard views and to add trees where feasible.
Why it matters: safety concerns about playground equipment carry immediate risk to children; noise and privacy impacts affect residents’ daily life and may require physical mitigation (trees, fences, unit relocation) and additional staffing or service costs.
What’s next: staff will inspect the slide, report on required repairs or removal, move the camera trailer for the coming weekend event and return recommendations on buffer plantings and porta‑potty placement.
