Clarks Summit councilors discussed a request to allocate an additional $100,000 to a senior-center repair project so alternate bid items can be included without delaying already approved work.
Council reviewed the project scope and said Highland Associates prepared engineering documents. Officials noted the county extended the bid deadline (staff referenced a new bid date around June 24) and is applying for an extension of 2021 funds so they would not expire in October. If the county secures the extension, the project schedule should remain on track.
Councilors said that if the borough does not commit the additional funds now, the county or park could decline alternates in the bid package and the project would proceed without those additions. Allocating the money allows county administrators to include the alternates when bids are awarded and to administer the contract on the borough’s behalf.
The item was introduced as resolution 202611 in the meeting materials and council moved to approve additional funding so that work already out to bid can proceed with the alternates included.
What happens next: county staff will continue procurement; council indicated a similar formal approval may appear at the next meeting (July 1) to keep the project moving if the county’s funding extension is approved.
