Resident given July 16 deadline to obtain permit for home remodel or face $750 fine

The Village of Villa Park continued case CE2026-295 to July 16, 2026, and directed the defendant to obtain the necessary building permits for an interior remodel and to clear exterior debris. Court staff said a March 4 citation had been issued after inspectors observed construction debris and no permits on file; staff recommended a $750 fine if the work was not brought into compliance.

When the hearing was called, the defendant identified himself as Matin Rashid and said much of the material outside his home came from a spring cleanout and interior remodeling work (trim, closet systems, vanity replacement, light fixture, tile). He said he had not obtained the permits yet because of a contentious divorce and family emergencies that interfered with communication and contractor coordination, but he acknowledged understanding the requirement to produce before-and-after photos and an inspector's review.

The presiding officer emphasized that the defendant must obtain the permit in hand by the next court date, not just apply for it. The court set a final continuance to July 16 and warned that a fine would be assessed if there was no progress toward compliance.

The matter will return on July 16 for staff to verify permit status and remediation.
