Commission asks Conservation Commission to explain Long Lake Shore Drive proposals after resident raises safety and accessibility concerns

A time‑sensitive agenda item drew the meeting’s most extended discussion when a participant raised concerns about the Conservation Commission’s handling of Long Lake Shore Drive issues. The speaker — a resident who has attended Conservation hearings — said the hearings have concentrated on keeping or modifying private, makeshift docks rather than addressing public safety, accessible pathways, parking or road conditions.

“That road is in massive disrepair. It’s very narrow … there’s nowhere for parking,” the resident said, urging the town to consider sidewalks, accessible pathways and parking before making recreational changes. The resident also criticized legal advice offered at Conservation hearings and called for removal of unsafe, homemade docks that would not meet town construction standards.

Members agreed to request a formal update from the Conservation Commission. George moved and Gary seconded a motion to send a letter asking Conservation to appear before the Disabilities Commission; the motion carried unanimously.

The Commission recorded the action as a letter request and will follow up to schedule the Conservation Commission presentation.
