Council honors communications leader Shereé Honeyut as she departs city role

The Kansas City Council adopted Resolution 260501 recognizing Shereé Honeyut for her service in the city’s communications office and thanking her for leadership during emergencies, major initiatives and community events. The clerk read the resolution title into the record and the council moved the item to a vote; the resolution passed during the ceremonial portion of the meeting.

Council members praised Honeyut’s work to strengthen interdepartmental coordination, improve transparency and mentor colleagues. Several members described her help preparing elected officials for media appearances and credited her with improving public messaging during crises. Those tributes emphasized her neighborhood roots in Kansas City and the mentoring she provided to newer council members.

Honeyut accepted the recognition and delivered remarks about the city’s character and the people who shaped her. She reflected on family influence and on Kansas City’s civic passion, saying, “Kansas City is known for our heart,” and thanking colleagues, family and the communications team for their support. She told the council she would remain nearby after leaving the post.

The resolution honored Honeyut’s four years in the communications office and encouraged continued public engagement and transparency in city communications.
