Council delays final action on dangerous structure at 217–219 West Mill after owner misses hearing

The Plainville City Council discussed enforcement steps for a dangerous structure at 217–219 West Mill under Resolution 254 but postponed final action after the property owner, identified as Colin, said by phone he could not return from California in time to attend the hearing.

Staff reminded the council that the resolution had set a repair-or-remove trigger date of June 2, but council members agreed that additional time might be prudent and said Colin indicated he could appear at the meeting on June 16. No motion was made to move forward with demolition or abatement at this meeting.

Council members expressed frustration that the structure had been idle for a long time and emphasized the goal that something be done with the property, but they also signaled willingness to work with the owner and to bring the matter back when he can attend.

Next steps: staff will continue communications with the property owner and place the item on a future agenda when the owner is present or when staff recommends further action.
