Brandon Sack, mayor of the city of Terre Haute, told the Vigo County Council the mayoral administration, City Council members and county officials have met to review opioid‑program funding after state reductions to Health First Indiana and that the city expects to contribute financially to help sustain programs.
“We think we're really close to a final number of what the city can offer financially to help offset some of the judicial programs that were brought to you after the state cut the Health First Indiana program,” Sack said. He said the city is prioritizing programs that help reduce jail overcrowding and that have demonstrated street-level results with law enforcement, naming the RISE Mental Health Court as a priority and saying the city is considering financial help for Suzy’s Place, contingent on further discussion with Judge Reddy.
Sack said the city and county want to show coordinated support for the programs and invited questions from council. No formal request for county appropriations was made during his remarks; Sack offered to answer follow-up questions and indicated the discussion is ongoing.
Next steps: Sack said he would stand by for questions and that additional financial details would be developed as city/commissioner conversations continue.
