Vigo County Public Library reports modest increases in checkouts, visits and library card registrations for 2025

Jordan Orwig, executive director of the Vigo County Public Library, presented highlights from the library’s 2025 annual report to the council.

Orwig reported the system circulated roughly 226,000 electronic materials and about 281,000 physical items in 2025, totaling slightly more than 500,000 checkouts — up about 5% from 2024. He said the library has almost 38,000 library cards in the system, an increase of over 6% from the previous year, representing roughly a third of Vigo County residents.

Orwig also reported about 295,000 people visited the library system last year, a roughly 3.5% increase, and that the system ran about 1,400 programs across branches and outreach sites in 2025. He described the summer reading kickoff (802 attendees) and that as of yesterday 1,385 people had signed up for the summer program, compared with 1,311 at the same point the prior year.

Orwig provided a pamphlet with the June program list and offered to answer follow-up questions.

Next steps: Library staff will continue outreach and programming; council members thanked Orwig and offered no substantive follow-up at the meeting.
