Barb’s Pizza approved to serve beer and wine at 77 Berlin Road

The Cromwell Planning and Zoning Commission approved a special permit June 2 allowing Barb’s Pizza at 77 Berlin Road to serve beer and wine.

Owner‑operator Barry Arpea described the restaurant’s 25‑year history and said he complies with regulations for storage and service. Staff told the commission the business is located in the highway business zone and recommended approval. After a brief public hearing and questions about hours (Arpea said he closes at 9 p.m.), the commission moved to approve application 26‑16. The motion passed on a verbal ‘all in favor.’

Chair Alice Kelly reminded the applicant that the special permit is not effective until the applicant files the special‑permit form on the land records with the town clerk, a procedural step required to finalize the permit.

What happens next: staff will issue formal approval letters and provide the applicant the land‑record filing form; the permit takes effect on filing.
