Resident urges city to inspect and repair chip‑seal streets after complaints

During the community‑comment portion of the June 2 meeting, resident Lucy Jokins of 571 Westboro Place said neighborhood streets resurfaced with chip seal in 2023 were poorly finished and degrade in hot weather, creating safety and quality concerns.

"When it gets warm ... the streets get melty," Jokins told the council, describing tire marks and sticky surface material and saying previous complaints had not produced a repair schedule. She asked public‑works staff to inspect the listed streets (Hollywood, Westboro, Lockwood Court, Barstow, Oaks Court) and explain why the problem has not been fixed.

Mayor Laura Arnold and other council members acknowledged the complaint; staff later said they would follow up with an inspection and review of the contractor work and any warranty or corrective options. Jokins said she had tried to contact public works by email without response and urged clearer communication to neighborhood residents.

The council did not take immediate action during the meeting beyond noting the public comment and promising follow‑up from staff.
