The Medical Board approved two special faculty permit applications presented by the special faculty permit review committee.
Dr. Ayella Rodriguez summarized the committee’s evaluation of Dr. Muhammad Solmani, who was recruited by the University of Southern California for a clinical professorship and leadership role in cornea and external eye disease services. The committee noted Dr. Solmani’s training, scholarly publications, leadership roles, and planned responsibilities at USC; it recommended approval of a special faculty permit and appointment as chief of the cornea and refractive surgery service pending board approval.
The committee also recommended approval of Dr. Marcelo Rodriguez for a special faculty permit at the University of California, San Diego, citing his international experience in musculoskeletal radiology, leadership roles, research record, and proposed clinical and teaching duties.
Board members asked clarifying questions about recent fellowships and the candidate qualifications; after discussion the board voted by roll call to accept the committee’s recommendations and approve both special faculty permits.
Next steps: staff will complete the administrative steps to issue the special faculty permits and record the appointments.
